IMO 2020 – One Year to Go

From January 2020, the International Maritime Organisation will restrict the sulphur content of shipping fuels to 0.5%, with big implications for the refining sector. With just a year left to prepare, the IMO regulations remain high on the priority list for the Gulf’s stakeholders, especially given the global significance of shipping hubs such as Dubai or Jeddah. The Board highlighted that whereas there was initially some scepticism about the seriousness of these regulations, the realisation has now set in that compliance looks far from straightforward. Time has all but run out to develop a strategy, so a final push to coordinate with stakeholders in the shipping industry could be useful.
