Mark D. Staples

Dr. Mark D. Staples is a Research Scientist at the Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he leads an interdisciplinary research team on energy technology assessments, with a particular focus on applications in bioenergy, biofuels, and aviation. The results of his research have been published in leading scientific journals, including Nature Energy, Energy Economics, and Energy and Environmental Science. Since 2014, Dr. Staples has been serving as a Technical Advisor to the US Government at the International Civil Aviation Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. Dr. Staples holds a PhD in Engineering Systems from MIT, a MS in Technology and Policy from MIT, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta (Canada).
